Requiem, a performance by Dan Bozgan and Nicolas Jounis, dedicated to maestro Iulian Bozgan.
This quiet act of remembrance was written by composer and conductor Nicolas Jounis together with violinist Dan Bozgan in memory of Iulian Bozgan, Dan’s late brother and a fellow violinist. The work carries an intimate emotional weight, shaped by Jounis’s refined musical vision.
An acclaimed conductor, pianist and composer, Nicolas Jounis has led major symphonic and operatic ensembles across Europe and holds a deep affection for the Romanian Opera and the city of Craiova. Together, the two artists created a piece that stands as both a tribute and a shared act of mourning, transformed into sound.
As Dan Bozgan later reflected:
“My themes and harmony were completed in five days. The orchestration took ten days. It was my wish to dedicate this evening to my brother, and my friend Nicolas, who is in love with the Romanian Opera and Craiova, felt the same way. The show was full of emotions; personally, I felt as if I had been transported to another world for the entire duration of the concert. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were people in the audience who had known Iulian, who told me after every musical note that they felt like they could see my brother there, right before their eyes. My colleagues, the musicians, were just as emotional, feeling the thrill of the feelings they then conveyed to the audience.”
During the concert, the chair once occupied by Iulian on stage was set with his violin, surrounded by several bouquets of flowers.
